ABOUT US

Welcome to the Natural Perfumers Guild, a meeting place for, and a community of, people who create natural perfumes and scented products from essential oils, absolutes, concretes and resins. We embrace everyone from professional perfumers to scent enthusiasts, estheticians, cosmetic makers, soapmakers, and vendors of natural scent products and we would love to have you join us.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our purpose is to gather and strengthen our existing community, increase public awareness and education about pure and natural perfumes, and establish standards of excellence in perfumery.

The artisanal focus is very real. We create perfumes by hand, with attention to the botanical sources and the alchemy that is the soul of the artist. An Artisan Natural Perfumer will have standards of creation and exploration that demand excellence of product and lifelong commitment to the art and craft of natural perfumery.

CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION AS A
PROFESSIONAL PERFUMER:

Edmond Roudnitska, the famed perfumer, creator of such classics as Femme, Diorella, Le Parfum de Therese, Eau de Hermes and many others, wrote eloquently when he described what a perfume must communicate:

"A beautiful perfume is the one which brings about a shock. A sensual shock that irritates our senses at first, but followed by a psychological shock which lasts the longer with the perfume developing its form, following a slowed evaporation scheme; this in a way that with the form being original it will inscribe itself in our mind which will not forget it and recognize it at the first following encounter.

In order to be beautiful, this form must answer our expectation of novelty and harbor the fundamental qualities of a grand perfume:"

1. Character
2. Force
3. Power
4. Diffusion
5. Clarity
6. Volume
7. Lasting power

The Natural Perfumers Guild recognizes those qualities as a touchstone in evaluating a perfume submitted for obtaining Professional Perfumer status in the Guild. There are two of the qualities that are sometimes difficult to create with naturals - diffusion and volume - and we recognize this and make concessions if the submitted perfume(s) meet the other criteria.

The other criteria must be met to qualify someone's creation and to elevate that artist to Professional Perfumer. So, please understand this stringent evaluation process and what we are looking for if your perfume is not accepted on the first submittal.

Natural perfumery is in its infant stages, and we must hold a high standard up for our Guild as to what a truly sophisticated, beautiful natural perfume is so that challenges and demands from the general perfume-buying and loving population can be met with worthy products.

Applicants must supply the Guild President with one (1) full-size, store-ready example of each product; three (3) samples of each product; and relevant promotional materials. New products developed after acceptance into the NPG must be submitted to the Guild President within two months of launch. There is a $50, non-refundable review fee required at the time of submission. NPG Professional Perfumers are required to have a reciprocal link to NPG.com on their website.Non-refundable application fee is $100 or $150, based on number of employees.
